COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Mountain West Conference had three athletes compete at the 14th International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Junior Championships in Bejing, China, August 15-20. BYU sophomore Chris Carter won the gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles, while TCU's Justyn Warner, competing for his home country of Canada, brought home the silver medal in the 100-meter dash.

Carter, from Roy, Utah, won the first gold medal for Team USA on Friday (August 18), winning the 400-meter hurdles in 50.08. Carter, the 2006 MWC Outdoor Track Freshman of the Year, also won the 400 hurdles at the USA Junior Championships earlier this summer.

Warner, the 2006 MWC Indoor Track Freshman of the Year, finished second in the 100-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 10.39. The Markham, Ontario, native, also helped the Canadian Junior 4x100 relay squad to a fourth place finish clocking a time of 39.98.

BYU sophomore Amy Fowler also competed at the championships, finishing eighth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:11.73.
