COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU sophomore Chris Carter won the 400-meter hurdles world championship Friday (August 18) at the 2006 International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Junior Championships in Beijing, China. Carter's victory marked the first gold medal for the United States in this year's competition.

Carter, the 2006 MWC Outdoor Track and Field Freshman of the Year, brought home the gold medal in a time of 50.08, outdistancing Shraheli Bandar of Saudi Arabia, who finished the race in 50.34 seconds.
