COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Mountain West Conference announced the 2002 Academic All-Conference team for men's and women's track and field today. To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and be a starter or significant contributor to the team.

A total of 215 student-athletes earned MWC academic honors in 2001-02, including 134 women and 81 men. BYU led the way with 58 honorees, followed by Colorado State with 46 and New Mexico with 30. Wyoming placed 26 student-athletes on the MWC academic team, while Air Force had 24 and Utah had 20. San Diego State and UNLV, each sponsoring only women's track and field programs, followed with seven and four Academic All-MWC award winners, respectively. A total of 94 student-athletes were repeat selections from 2001, including 57 women and 37 men.
