BYU Men's and Women's Track and Field Programs Honored as USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams 34 MWC individual student-athletes named to All-Academic Teams
Aug. 6, 2008 NEW ORLEANS - The Mountain West Conference had two track and field teams and 34 individuals honored with post-season all-academic awards by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).The BYU men's track & field team (3.070 GPA) was one of 48 Division I men's programs to be named a 2008 All-Academic Team by the USTFCCCA, while the women's team (3.320 GPA) represented the Cougars as one of 117 Division I women's programs to earn the accolade. The selection of the All-Academic Indoor and Outdoor Scholar Teams of the Year award is based on a combination of academic and athletic achievements, with the top honor going to the team that had the combination of best overall finish at the Division I Indoor and/or Outdoor National Championships and cumulative GPA. To be nominated, the team must carry a minimum 3.000 team cumulative grade-point average. Individually, 11 male and 23 female student-athletes competing for MWC member institutions were named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Men's and Women's Track & Field Teams, respectively. A record total of 266 male student-athletes representing 111 Division I institutions and 468 female student-athletes representing 140 Division I institutions composed the All-Academic teams. To qualify, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their respective event.
