Colorado State junior Loree Smith today won the Gold medal in the hammer throw at the NACAC Championships. The NACAC (North American-Central American-Carribean) Under-23 Championships started today in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada and Smith is one of four representatives from the Mountain West Conference on the USA Team. Others representing the USA are Tonette Dyer (San Diego State), Dana Pounds (Air Force) and Kassi Andersen (BYU). Smith threw 209-5 (63.83m) in the opening event of the championships to bring home Gold for her country. The USA swept the top two spots (only two competitors per country allowed) as Jessica Crosby finished second. Smith was selected to the team after her performance at the USA Olympic Trials in Sacramento earlier this month.
