Aztecs Head to China for IAAF World Junior Championships Sheffield, Watson to represent USA; Campbell-Fell to compete for Canada
July 27, 2006 SAN DIEGO - San Diego State head coach Rahn Sheffield and sophomores Shana Watson and Corri Campbell-Fell are set to travel to Beijing, China for the 11th IAAF World Junior Championships. The world event is being held at the Beijing Chaoyang Sports Fitness and Leisure Park from August 15-20. Sheffield, entering his 16th season on Montezuma Mesa, is one of four assistant coaches on head coach Rose Monday's prestigious six-person staff. Joining Sheffield are head manager Cedric Walker and assistant coaches Kerry Lane, Qingyi Zheng and Sharifa Barksdale. Watson, part of the 46-member women's junior national team, is one of two long jumpers on the squad. The Oakland, Calif., native qualified for the world event in June after she finished second in the long jump with a personal-best mark of 21 feet, 0 inches at the USA Junior National Track Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. Watson will begin her quest for a medal Aug. 17 when qualifying rounds in her event commence. Campbell-Fell, meanwhile, was named to the Canadian Junior National Team, after finishing second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1 minute, .77 seconds, earlier this month. The Vancouver, Canada, product will begin preliminary competition on day one of the championships, Aug. 15.
