LARAMIE, Wyo. -

Wyoming's Shauna Smith has been selected by the United States Track and Field Association (USTFA) to compete in a United States vs. Great Britain vs. Russia triangular meet Sunday, July 25, in Birmingham, England.

Smith will be a member of the U.S. 4x400 meter relay team, which is scheduled to race at 12:00 p.m. (MST). The meet will be broadcasted live on the BBC. Smith placed sixth in the 400 meter hurdles at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials on July 11, but is being considered to fill one of three remaining spots on the U.S. Olympic 4x400 meter relay team.

According to IAAF (International Association of Athletic Federations) and USTAF regulations the top three finishers in the men's and women's 100 meter and men's and women's 400 meter at the Olympic Trials are automatically chosen for the relay pool (six spots). The remaining three spots in each relay pool may be filled by any athlete who competed at the Olympic Trials.

"We are excited for Shauna to compete in Europe," said UW head track and field coach Don Yentes. "She will get some valuable experience for her career and could possibly earn a spot on the Olympic team."

Smith will also travel to Munich, Germany for another meet on August 8.
