COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Seven Mountain West Conference member institutions were honored as 2009 Division I All-Academic Track & Field Teams, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced.

The BYU men's track & field team was one of 67 Division I men's programs to be named a 2009 All-Academic Team by the USTFCCCA. The Cougars carried a 3.130 grade-point average throughout the season, which was the 27th-best team GPA in the country among Division I institutions.

On the women's side, New Mexico boasted the 15th-best GPA among 130 Division I women's teams with a cumulative score of 3.420 to earn 2009 All-Academic Team status. BYU (3.250) and Colorado State (3.233) followed closely behind to collect honors as well. Utah claimed the accolade with a combined GPA of 3.209, as did the Wyoming Cowgirls, who turned in a 3.143 GPA for the year. The TCU Horned Frogs rounded out the award recipients with a 3.072 grade-point average.

To be nominated for Division I All-Academic Track & Field honors, a team must carry a minimum 3.000 cumulative grade-point average. In 2008, two MWC programs (BYU men and women) earned All-Academic status.
