INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - With a throw of 183'9", recent Air Force graduate Dana Pounds concluded her collegiate career with a second-place showing at the U.S. Track and Field Championships on Friday, June 23, in Indianapolis, Ind.

Finishing second out of 17 overall athletes, the newly commissioned second lieutenant posted the best throw by a collegiate athlete and out-distanced the third-place finisher by over 12 feet. Winning the meet was Kim Kreiner, who broke her own American record with a throw of 204'10".

The javelin was originally supposed to be contested yesterday, but severe weather in the area postponed the competition nearly 24 hours.

The 2006 NCAA champion opened the rotation with a throw of 172'7", before recording near-matching distances of 169'4" and 169'11". As one of eight contenders to advance to the next round, Pounds tallied a toss of 170'5", before posting the second-best overall throw of the night at 183'9". She closed out the evening with a 164'7" and was just one of three athletes to successfully complete all eight attempts.
