SAN DIEGO - San Diego State freshman Shana Watson staged another impressive performance on Friday, earning a bronze medal in the triple jump during the third day of competition at the USA Track and Field Junior Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. The Oakland, Calif., product recorded a personal-best leap of 41 feet, 5.25 inches to claim her second award on the weekend. Watson also came away with the silver medal in the long jump on Thursday to qualify for the 2006 World Junior Championships, scheduled for Aug. 15-20 in Beijing, China.

Meanwhile, freshman Leanne Taylor (Porterville, Calif.) competed in her second event of the meet as well on Friday, finishing 13th in the discus with a toss of 132-10. Taylor also placed eighth in the shot put on Thursday.

Rounding out the day's action at IU Michael A. Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium was former Aztec Melinda Smedley, who ran in the preliminary round of the 100-meter dash, but was unable to advance after finishing 23rd overall with a time of 11.69 seconds.
