PROVO, Utah - After recently claiming her fifth All-American citation in the high jump, junior Lindsey Metcalf was named to the Academic All-American team, sponsored by CoSIDA, for her outstanding performance both on and off the track.

At the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Championships, Lindsey took eighth with a personal best jump of 6 feet, one-half inch in what will be known as the greatest NCAA high jump competition in history.

"Lindsey Metcalf is an awesome athlete and student," BYU women's coach Craig Poole said. "We are very proud of her many accomplishments. She has competed a number of times at the national level and has excelled each time."

Earlier this year, she also claimed All-American honors with her fifth place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships in the high jump.

With four conference championships in the high jump during her career, Lindsey is no stranger to success. She also maintains a 3.90 GPA in early childhood education while minoring in management and teaching English as a second language.

If that's not convincing enough, Lindsey is also a starting outside hitter on the BYU women's volleyball team. Despite having two different practices a day for four months out of the year, Lindsey flawlessly juggles academics and athletics even with such a busy schedule.

"She has everything it takes to achieve such high standards and all of her personal goals in both track and volleyball," Poole said. "She is also a very hard worker, and we're so glad to have her on our team."
