LARAMIE, Wyo. -

Michelle Kvernmo, a senior this past season on the University of Wyoming track and cross country teams, has been recognized for her success in the classroom and named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® University Division Women's Track and Field/Cross Country Third Team as selected by CoSIDA.

Kvernmo was one of 14 women named to the third team. She advanced to the national team consideration after being named to the All-District VII team last month. Kvernmo earned a 4.0 GPA in Kinesiology and Health Promotion.

The senior, from Hookstown, Pa., was one of the UW track and cross country team's best distance runners during her career. She was a two-time All-Mountain West Conference performer (top three finish) in the 10,000-meters as a junior and senior. In the 2005 cross country season, she was a top-three finisher among her team in almost every meet.

Kvernmo was also a three-time academic all-conference honoree and was a MWC Scholar Athlete recipient during those three years.

Student-athletes are selected in voting by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To qualify, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum of 3.20 cumulative grade-point average, must be at least a sophomore athletically and academically and must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competitions.
