UW's Smith Ranks Sixth In The U.S. Heading Into Olympic Trials The junior will head to Sacramento, California for the U.S. Olympic Trials in July.

LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Cowgirl junior Shauna Smith is one of the worlds fastest competitors in the 400 meter hurdles according to the United States Track and Field's website, www.ustaf.com. Smith, a native of Sheridan, Wyo., currently boasts the sixth fastest time by an American this year with her performance of 55.54 on June 12, which placed her third at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Austin, Texas. According to the recent top performance list from the International Association of Athletic Federations, www.iaaf.com, Smith's time ranks 17th in the world. Fellow Cowgirl Jessica Fox, from Burns, Wyo., ranks 28th in the country in the women's 400 meter dash with her performance of 52.39 at the Mountain West Conference Championships in May. Smith and Fox will head to the 2004 United States Olympic Team
