Hemingway Named To Academic All-America Team

Las Cruces native is the second Lobo to honored under sixth-year head coach Matt Henry.

Hemingway was the Lobos' No. 2 miler indoors and No. 3 1,500-meter man during the spring.

University of New Mexico senior distance runner Frank Hemingway was announced today as a second team selection to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America men's track & field/cross country team. Hemingway is the second Lobo under sixth-year head coach Matt Henry to earn the College Sports Information Directors of America's (CoSIDA) top academic honor. The Las Cruces native graduated in May with a 4.04 GPA in Electrical Engineering.

Soon-to-be a four-time Academic all-Mountain West Conference and three-time MWC Scholar Athlete Award winner, Hemingway is also a finalist for the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. He was 1 of 320 national Goldwater Scholar recipients and a Department of Homeland Security Scholar in 2004.

Hemingway enjoyed his best athletic year in 2005-06, appearing in three meets during the cross country season and scoring for the first time in his career in a meet at New Mexico State. He notched four top-eight finishes, including one victory, in his eight races during the indoor season and was the Lobos' No. 2 runner in the mile. He also helped the distance medley relay team place 6th in his first Mountain West Conference Championships appearance. During the outdoor season, Hemingway was the team's No. 3 1,500 runner, winning the event at UTEP and placing fourth at USC.

Decathlete Mark Johnson was the first Academic All-American under Henry, garnering first team honors in 2004.
