UNM Track Champ Matt Gonzales is Set to Make One of His Dreams Come True The Albuquerque Tribune Feature Story

By Brad Moore ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - When Matt Gonzales races against the American greats of his sport in the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, he'll finally catch up with one of his dreams. This dream will cross over into reality for the University of New Mexico track standout at 7:50 p.m. Thursday in Palo Alto, Calif. At that time, Gonzales will be off and running in the 10,000 meters against the likes of Olympian Meb Keflezighi, the American record-holder in the event and four-time NCAA champion; Alan Culpepper, the 1999 USA 10,000 meter champ; and Abdi Abdirahman, a 2000 Olympian and 2001 USA champ. "I've been dreaming about this ever since I started running," says Gonzales, who hails from Santa Fe. "These are guys I've always looked up to.
