BYU, USA Track Host Pre-trials Sprint and Power Meet Meet to be held July 25-26.
June 17, 2004 PROVO, Utah - The Clarence F. Robison Track and Field Complex at Brigham Young University has been chosen by USA Track and Field as the site for the 2004 Pre-trials Sprint and Power Track and Field Meet. BYU is hosting the meet July 25-26, in conjunction with the Utah Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships. The United State Olympic Committee commissioned the upcoming pre-trial meet in an effort to maximize the number of medals America could win at the upcoming Olympic games in Athens, Greece. Former Olympians, American record holders and athletes from all across North America will be in attendance to compete in the meet in an effort to post times and marks that could qualify them for the Olympic teams of their respective countries. The top nine athletes in each sprint event advance to the finals with the next nine advancing to the consolation round, while the top 12 in the field events will advance to the final round. BYU was chosen as the site for all sprint events 400-meters and shorter, the filed events as well as the heptathlon and decathlon events by USA Track and Field due to the high quality of the facilities at the Robison Track Complex - which are second to none in the country. Competition gets underway on Friday, July 25, with the finals taking place on Saturday, July 26. Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for children and free for kids six and under
