NEW ORLEANS - Colorado State head track and field coach Brian Bedard has been named the 2008 Mountain Region Women's Coach of the Year, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced today.

In his second season as head coach after serving 17 years as an assistant at Colorado State, Bedard led the Rams to their first Mountain West Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship title and was subsequently named the 2008 MWC Women's Coach of the Year. Overall, Bedard coached the Colorado State women to three individual titles at the 2008 MWC Outdoor Championships and placed seven student-athletes on the All-Conference team. Six of Bedard's female student-athletes qualified in seven events at the 2008 NCAA Championships, which will take place June 11-14, in Des Moines, Iowa. Overall, Bedard coached the Colorado State women to three individual titles at the 2008 MWC Outdoor Championships and placed seven student-athletes on the All-Conference team.

In each of the country's nine regions, the USTFCCCA selects the top men's and women's track athlete, field athlete, head coach and assistant coach for the 2008 NCAA Division I outdoor season.
