Pounds' coach and USAFA assistant track and field coach, Scott Irving, is excited for his athlete's selection to this meet. "It is a tremendous example of how Dana's stock has risen on both the national and world scene, "Irving stated. "I am delighted to be able to go back to Oregon and to be there for Dana. It is the second time this year that she has competed at Oregon and I believe it is excellent preparation for 2008 when Eugene and the University of Oregon host the Olympic Trials."
Irving began his collegiate coaching career at the University of Oregon, where school records still stand for his throwers in the women's discus, shot and javelin, and where his coaching record includes six national javelin champions between Lynda Hughes, Sally Harmon, Patty Kearney and Simone Frandsen.
