Three Track & Field Athletes Earn At-Large Births To NCAA, Bringing Total To Seven Senior Michelle Carman and juniors Cristina Gourdin and Katie Hansen all earned at-large bids and will join the four automatic qualifiers at the NCAA Championship in Sacramento June 8-11.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- The NCAA recently announced the at-large
qualifiers for the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship and
Colorado State had three earn bids. Senior Michelle Carman and juniors
Cristina Gourdin and Katie Hansen all earned at-large bids and will join
the four automatic qualifiers at the NCAA Championship in Sacramento
June 8-11.
Carman finished 12th in the 5000 meters at the Midwest Regional last
weekend, but has ranked among the top 30 in the nation most of the
season. This will be her first NCAA Championship as a Ram and her final
competition in the green and gold.
Gourdin, for the second straight season, nabbed the final qualifying
spot in the heptathlon, qualifying 27th with her school record total of
5251.
Hansen finished sixth in the discus at the Midwest Regional last weekend
with her throw of 166-3 and qualifies in the 20th position.
The trio joins seniors Loree Smith and Adam Trainor and junior Jace
Rivera in the hammer and senior Mike Nicks in the steeplechase.
Hansen will begin competition for the Rams at 11:00 a.m. (Pacific) on
June 8, followed by Trainor and Rivera in the hammer at 1:00 p.m. Nicks
and Carman then run the preliminaries at 8:35 and 9:40 p.m. On Thursday,
Smith is the lone Ram, beginning the hammer throw at 1:00 p.m. On
Friday, Hansen will throw the discus at noon, with Gourdin starting the
heptathlon at 12:15 and the finals of the men's hammer (2:00) and
steeplechase (6:50). On Saturday is the finals of the women's hammer
(1:30), heptathlon (11:00 a.m.) and 5000 meters (8:10 p.m.).
