PROVO, Utah - The High Performance Committee of U.S. Track and Field has chosen BYU to host a Sprint and Power Meet June 1-2. The Sprint and Power Meet will feature sprinters and field event athletes as they try to qualify for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Three years ago, BYU was chosen to host this meet in anticipation of the 2004 Athens Olympics. At that meet, nine stadium records were set along with 38 Olympic `A' standard marks.

"The U.S. Olympic Committee wants to get as many athletes with Olympic A standards as possible," BYU Track Operations Administrator Doug Padilla said. "We have the honor of hosting some of the best Athletes in the U.S. while they try to reach a world class mark. We had a great meet in 2004. We hope that people will take advantage of this opportunity to witness Olympic caliber competition."

The U.S. Track team is sponsoring 48 athletes in the sprint and field events to come and compete. Many of these athletes are the best America has in these events.
