SALT LAKE CITY-Utah pole vaulter Brooke LoBue has been named to the Verizon Academic All-America District VIII Track and Field Team. The senior already holds a bachelor's degree in deaf education, in which she maintained a 3.86 GPA. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in deaf education, while upholding a 3.91 GPA. LoBue now advances to the national ballot, which will be released in June.

The Visalia, Calif., native won the pole vault with a jump of 3.96 meters, 12-11 ¾ feet, at the recently held Mountain West Conference Outdoor Championships. During 2003, she broke her own school record and set an NCAA Regional qualifying mark at the BYU Invitational by clearing 3.97m, 13-00 ¼. That mark ranks 24th nationally and ninth in the West region. LoBue will compete this weekend at the NCAA West Regional in Palo Alto, Calif.

During her two years at Utah, LoBue has been named all-MWC during both indoor and outdoor seasons. She was also named academic all-MWC in 2002. She was academic all-WAC in 1999 and 2000 while competing at Fresno State.
