MWC Sends 30 Athletes To NCAA Outdoor Track Championships NCAAs to be held May 30 through June 2 in Eugene, Ore.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Mountain West Conference will send 30 athletes to compete in 34 events at the 2001 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Six of the eight MWC institutions will be represented as 11 men's and 19 women's track athletes made the field. A total of 776 athletes (388 men, 388 women) will compete at the NCAA Outdoor Track Championships in Eugene, Ore., May 30 through June 2. Athletes qualified by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event. BYU led the MWC with 16 NCAA qualifiers. The Cougars' Elizabeth Jackson is the favorite in the 3,000 meter steeplechase after setting the American record (9:55.63) in the event at the 2001 MWC Outdoor Track Championships. Jackson is the only collegiate athlete to run the 3,000 meter steeplechase in under 10 minutes this season.
Colorado State's Bryan Berryhill is the frontrunner in the 1,500 meters with a nation-best time of 3:37.23. The Rams sent a total of five athletes to the NCAA Championships, followed by Wyoming with four, San Diego State with three and UNLV and Air Force each with one.
