Distance Runner Joe Hall Named First Team Academic All-District VII Cowgirls Adelaide Harper and Davina Strauss named Second Team honorees.

University of Wyoming senior distance runner Joe Hall has been named a Verizon First Team Academic All-District VII selection, as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Two Cowgirl track and field members, junior Adelaide Harper and senior Davina Strauss, were named to the women's Second Team squad. Hall, a native of Buffalo, Wyo., is a provisional qualifier for the 2001 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 10,000-meter run. Hall competed at the 2000 NCAA Cross Country Championships where he finished 112th out of 255 participants. He ranks second all-time in Wyoming history in the outdoor 3000-meter run, third in the indoor 5000-meter run and fourth in the 10,000-meter run. Hall, who was named to the District VII First Team in 2000 as well, was named the Wyoming Engineering Society Student Engineer of the Year for the 2000-01 academic year. He was also named 2000 Academic All-Mountain West Conference and earned Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete honors during his career at UW. Hall, who has a 3.94 g.p.a. in architectural engineering, has been awarded an NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship. Harper and Strauss were both named to the women's Verizon District VII Second Team. There were ten First Team selections and ten Second Team selections. Harper, who is from Kingston, Jamaica, is one of top sprinters on the Cowgirl team. She set a new UW school record in the indoor 200-meter dash this past indoor season with a time of 24.31. She also stands second all-time in the 60-meter dash (7.58), the 100-meter dash (11.81) and in the outdoor 200-meter dash (23.92). Harper has a 3.77 g.p.a. and is studying pharmacy. Strauss is the top long jumper on the Cowgirl squad. A native of
Sydney, Australia, Strauss stands in fourth in the Wyoming record books
in the long jump with a mark of 19-2 1/2. She placed third in the long
jump at the 2001 Mountain West Conference Indoor Track and Field
Championships, earning All-Conference honors. Strauss, who has a 3.70
g.p.a. in exercise and sport science, earned Mountain West Conference
Scholar-Athlete honors in 2000 and was also a 2000 Academic
All-Conference selection.
