All-Mountain West Conference Outdoor Track & Field Teams Announced
May 18, 2009
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -
The Mountain West Conference announced its Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field all-Conference teams today. All-conference selections are awarded to the top three finishers in each event.
On Saturday, the Conference announced the MWC Men's and Women's Coaches of The Year, High Point and Outstanding Performance award recipients. This year's MWC Men's Coach of the Year award was given to Mark Robison of BYU. Robison received his sixth-consecutive career accolade in seven years at the helm of the Cougar program. On the women's side, Craig Poole, also of BYU, earned the honor after coaching the Cougars to their eighth Conference crown.
New Mexico senior Jarrin Solomon earned the Men's Outstanding Performance award, after breaking the MWC Championship record for the men's 400-meter dash, clocking a time of 45.68 to secure his second title in the event. Fellow Lobo Katie Coronado became the second woman in MWC history to capture three career javelin crowns. The senior's toss of 174'-6.00" (53.18m) earned her the Women's Outstanding Performance award.
Kyle Perry, a BYU senior, became the second-consecutive Cougar to be awarded the MWC Men's High Point award with 21.25 points. Perry took the title in both the 1,500-meter run and the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while helping the Cougar 4x400-meter relay team to a fourth-place finish. The women's award went to San Diego State senior Karoline Koehler, who racked up 30.50 points competing in five championship events. She won both the long jump and triple jump events, while finishing third and sixth in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, respectively. Koehler also ran a leg on the Aztecs' 4x100-meter relay team, which placed third.
