COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - With Brigham Young University the clear-cut favorite to win the Mountain West Conference outdoor track and field championship this weekend, the other conference teams, including host Air Force, are looking for a strong second-place showing.

BYU will try to capture its third straight men's and women's titles after winning back-to-back championships in Provo in 2000 and in San Diego last year.

BYU returns three athletes who won titles at the 2001 MWC championships. Matt Nielsen posted a time of 47.15 seconds to win the 400-meter crown; Jeff Hansen won the pole vault with a mark of 18 feet, 1/2 inch and Holly Haguewood won the 800 in 2:08.49.
