ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - After five months of indoor and outdoor competition, the University of New Mexico will head to Colorado Springs, Colo. for its most important meet of the year, the 2002 Mountain West Conference McLeodUSA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. While perennial powers Brigham Young and Colorado State will be the favorites in the men1s and women1s competition, New Mexico enters the meet much improved, and ready to climb the conference standings. The action gets underway at Falcon Track, on the campus of the U.S. Air Force Academy, on Wednesday, May 15, with the women1s heptathlon and men1s decathlon. Following the conclusion of the multi-event competitions on May 16, preliminary and final track and field event action begins Friday, May 17.
