LARAMIE, Wyo. - The University of Wyoming track and field teams will be looking to improve on last year's finishes when they take part in the Mountain West Conference Outdoor Championships this week in Las Vegas.

The UW women placed fourth out of eight teams in 2003, while the men were fifth out of six teams. BYU will attempt to capture its fifth straight men's title while San Diego State will look to capture its second straight women's title.

The Championships, which are being hosted by UNLV, are being held at the school's Myron Partridge Stadium and Sheila Tarr Smith Field. Action begins Wednesday with the women's heptathlon and the men's decathlon and continues through Saturday afternoon.

Since UNLV's facility has no lights, all of the events will take place during the day. The temperature in Las Vegas is supposed to be in the mid to high 80s Wednesday through Friday, and in the low 90s on Saturday.

The heptathlon and decathlon are the only two events scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday. The heptathlon begins at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday and 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, while the decathlon follows a half-hour later each day.
