MWC Weekly Track and Field Awards Air Force's Paul Gensic and Olivia Korte win honors
May 10, 2005 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Paul Gensic and Olivia Korte, both of Air Force, have been selected as the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively. MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Paul Gensic, a native of Fort Wayne, Ind., won the pole vault at the Ris Westen-Air Force Twilight Invitational, May 6, with a season-best mark of 17'-11". That vault is currently fifth in the nation and is Gensic's third NCAA regional-qualifying height of the season. It is also Gensic's sixth win in the pole vault this season as he topped the runner-up by four inches.
WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Olivia Korte, a native of Seneca, Kan., won the discus with an Air Force record throw of 170'-6" at the Ris Westen-Air Force Twilight Invitational, May 6. That throw is also fifth all-time in the MWC. Korte went on to place second in the shot put with a career-best mark of 45'-3", and was also fourth in the hammer throw with a heave of 161'-7". Her discus mark currently ranks 23rd nationally, while her shot put mark is second all-time at Air Force.
