MWC Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Utah's Jameson and New Mexico's Myers take home conference honors.
May 7, 2002 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah senior Teren Jameson and New Mexico freshman Kelli Myers have been selected as the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.
MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Jameson finished sixth in the 10,000-meters at the Stanford Cardinal Invitational last week with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 29:05.37. The time shattered his previous personal-best by over 25 seconds, while also establishing a new MWC 10,000-meter record by almost two seconds, breaking the mark of 29:07.36 by Josh Rohatinsky of BYU in 2001. Jameson's 10,000-meter time currently ranks 20th in the nation.
WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Myers had the finest performance of her young collegiate career as she won the high jump last Saturday at the UTEP Twilight Invitational with an NCAA provisional qualifying height of 5-10.75, marking her third straight victory in the event, and fourth overall this season. Myers also eclipsed her previous season-best by 2.25 inches, and matched Darcy Ahner (1989) and Heidi Anderson (1990) for the top all-time outdoor mark in the event in school history. Her jump is currently the best in the MWC this season and ranks tied for second all-time in conference history. 2002 Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week
