Outdoor Athletes of the Week CSU's Loftin and SDSU's Dyer take home conference honors.
May 6, 2003 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado State junior Drew Loftin and San Diego State junior Tonette Dyer have been selected as the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.
MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK Loftin won the hammer throw with an NCAA regional qualifying mark of 227' 4" at the Ward Haylett Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., on Saturday. His throw is the best in Mountain West Conference (214' 2" by Jason Hammond, Wyoming) and Colorado State (225' 2" by Mattias Borrman) history and currently ranks fourth in the nation this season. He also finished third in the discus with a throw of 188' 2".
WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Dyer finished as the top collegian in the 100-meter dash and won the 200-meter dash in NCAA regional qualifying times of 11.67 and 23.52, respectively, at the Steve Scott Invitational in Irvine, Calif., on Saturday. Her time in the 100 is a career-best, the fourth fastest in the Mountain West Conference history and the third best in conference this season. Dyer's time in the 200 ties her season best and ranks as the second fastest in the MWC this season.
