LARAMIE, Wyo. -

Wyoming distance runner Joe Hall, a senior from Buffalo, Wyo., has been awarded a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.

Hall, an architectural engineering major, was one of 29 male athletes to receive the honor for the fall sports season. The postgraduate scholarship is awarded to athletes in each of the three NCAA Divisions and is broken into two sports season, fall and spring.

During his athletic career at Wyoming Hall has been one of the top cross county and long distance runners for the Cowboys. This academic year Hall has provisionally qualified for the 2001 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 10,000-meter run and competed in the 2000 NCAA Cross Country Championships.

Academically Hall was named the Wyoming Engineering Society Student Engineer of the Year for the 2000-2001 academic year. He has also earned Academic All-Conference and Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete honors. In 2000 he was named to the GTE Academic All-American District VII Team.

"Joe's a great person and just a tremendous student," said Wyoming head track and field coach Don Yentes. "He's a very hard worker on and off the track and is very deserving of this award."

The NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship awards its recipients a $5,000 scholarship for part-time or full-time postgraduate study at the university or professional school of their choice.
