COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU freshman Chris Carter and Air Force senior Dana Pounds have been named Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.

Carter, an Ogden, Utah, native, won the 400-meter hurdles at the Robison Invitational in Provo, Utah, last weekend. His time of 50.40 ranks as the fourth-best time in MWC history, as well as a top-five time in the BYU record books. Carter's time is the top time in the conference this season and currently ranks eighth in the nation. He also ran the anchor leg of the winning 1600-meter relay squad that crossed the finish line in 3:09.36.

Pounds, from Lexington, Ky., won her third straight javelin title at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, last weekend. Her throw of 178'-10.00" (54.50m) topped the rest of the field by nearly 13 feet and made her the first three-time champion in the history of the Drake Relays. Pounds' mark was the second-best throw by any athlete at the Drake Relays since 1986, falling behind her own throw of 55.23 meters last year. Her toss is also the second best in the MWC this season, behind her own mark of 56.96 meters.
