COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Rodrigo Mendes of BYU and Amanda Barnes of New Mexico have been selected as the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.

MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Rodrigo Mendes - BYU
Senior • Jumps • Presidente Prudente, Brazil

Rodrigo Mendes set a Mountain West Conference record and won the triple jump at the Clarence Robison Invitational in Provo last weekend with a leap of 54'-5.50". On his sixth attempt, Mendes actually jumped 56'-0", which ranks first in the nation and is a NCAA regional qualifying mark, but his second attempt is the MWC record due to the later mark being wind aided. His jump is also second-best in BYU history. Mendes also finished second in the long jump with an effort of 23'-11.50".

WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Amanda Barnes - New Mexico
Senior • Throws • Carlsbad, N.M.

Amanda Barnes set a Mountain West Conference and New Mexico school record in the shot put with a heave of 52'-9.50" at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational last weekend. That mark shattered Colorado State's Liz Toman's conference record by over eight inches. Barnes, who finished third in the event, currently ranks 16th in the nation. She also finished 14th in the hammer throw and 17th in the discus.
