Mountain West Conference Announces Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week

TCU's Virgil Hodge and Justyn Warner Selected as Recipients

April 22, 2008

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - TCU junior Justyn Warner and senior Virgil Hodge have been selected as the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.

Warner, a Markham, Ontario, product, won the 100-meter dash last weekend at the TCU Invitational held in Fort Worth, Texas. The sprinter crossed the finish line with a personal-best and regional-qualifying time of 10.23 to edge the field. He went on to record a second regional-qualifying time with a tenth place finish in the 200-meter dash (21.27), and help the Horned Frogs to a first place finish in the 4x100 (39.76). Warner's mark in the 100 is currently tied for the eighth fastest time in the NCAA this season, according to TrackShark.com, and ranks him at the top of the league this spring. His 200-meter time currently ranks third in the MWC.

Hodge also dominated at the TCU Invitational, claiming first place finishes in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. The St. Kitts, Caribbean, native clocked regional-qualifying times of 11.26 in the 100 and 22.76 in the 200. Both times are the fastest in the league so far this season and her 200-meter time is the second fastest in the NCAA, according to TrackShark.com. Hodge's 100-meter time is the sixth fastest time in the NCAA and fifth best mark in the Midwest region this season.

This marks Warner's first career weekly honor and Hodge's fourth.
