COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Colorado State sophomore Mike Nicks and San Diego State junior Nicole Ireland have been selected as the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively.

MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Mike Nicks - Colorado State
Sophomore · Steeplechase · Colorado Springs, Colo./Doherty HS

Nicks finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a NCAA regional qualifying time of 8:51.73 in the Olympic Development Division at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. on April 17. His time is a personal-best as well as the second best in school history and the third best in Mountain West Conference history.

WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Nicole Ireland - San Diego State
Junior · Sprints/Hurdles · Las Vegas, Nev./University of Alabama

Ireland won the 400-meter hurdles in a new Mountain West Conference record of 57.30 (57.56 by Holly Gibbons, BYU in 2000) in the University/Open Division at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. on April 19. Her time in the 400-meter hurdles is the fourth-fastest in the nation this season, a personal-best and a NCAA regional qualifying time. She also finished second in the 400-meter dash with a career-best time of 52.91 in the Olympic Development Division and ran the second leg of the team's fourth place 4x400-meter relay, which posted a time of 3:34.77 in the elite Invitational Division. Her time in the 400-meter dash is the fifth-fastest in MWC history and second-fastest in the conference this season, it is also a NCAA regional qualifying time and ranks in the top 10 nationally. The relay time of 3:34.77 is the second-fastest in school and MWC history, fastest in the conference this season and ranks 10th in the nation this season.
