Sari-Bentzur Takes Sixth In Mt. SAC Heptathlon Meet continues through Sunday.
April 18, 2003 AZUSA, Calif. - Behind season-bests in the long jump (19-02.75) and 800 meters (2:24.09), University of New Mexico senior Keren Sari-Bentzur held onto sixth place in the Mt. SAC Relays heptathlon competition today. Under cold and threatening skies at Azusa Pacific University Stadium, Sari-Bentzur recorded a season-best score of 5,236 points, second among the elite collegiate competitors in the field. Entering the meet ranked ninth in the country and first in the Mountain West Conference, Sari-Bentzur turned in a steady performance over the two days of competition to improve her NCAA provisional qualifying score. She scored over 750 points in all but two events and surpassed 800 points in four (100LH, HJ, 200, LJ) of the seven events. Texas A&M's Kendra Reimer moved up three places to lead all collegiate competitors with a fifth place finish (5,431), while MWC foes Shannon Meyer and Leslie Miller of San Diego State finished seventh (5,198) and ninth (4,993), respectively. Canadian national team member Nicole Haynes won the competition with a score of 5,917 points.
The results of sophomore Ryan Voge's performance in the
California Invitational section of the decathlon were not
immediately available due to technical difficulties on the Azusa
Pacific University athletic department website. Complete decathlon
