MWC Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week Air Force's Travis Picou and Dana Pounds earn weekly accolades.
April 11, 2006 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Air Force sophomore Travis Picou and senior Dana Pounds have been named Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively. This is the third career weekly honor for Pounds, and the first for Picou. Picou, a Spring Valley, Calif., native, set Academy records in the 100 and 200 meter dash on the way to two individual wins at the Colorado Invitational in Boulder, Colo., last week. His regional qualifying time of 10.46 in the 100 meter dash broke the Air Force record of 10.52, which stood for nearly 18 years. Picou's time of 20.73 in the 200 is the third fastest mark on the all-time MWC list, as well as the top time in the conference this season, and fifth fastest in the nation. His time shattered the previous Falcon school record 20.96, set in 2000. Picou also ran the first leg of the winning 4x400 meter relay team, which crossed the finish line in 3:15.36. Pounds, from Lexington, Ky., brought home the gold medal in the javelin throw at the Colorado Invite. Her season-best throw of 186'-10.00" (56.96m) topped the runner-up by over 55 feet and is currently the top throw in the nation. Pounds' mark in the javelin is also tops in the MWC by over 40 feet and is just off of her Academy and conference record of 188'-8.00" (57.52), set last season.
