April 3, 2007 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico junior Jarrin Solomon and San Diego State sophomore Karoline Koehler have been named Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week. Solomon, an Albuquerque, N.M., native, ran a career-best and NCAA regional qualifying time of 46.42 to win the 400-meter race at the Arizona International in Tucson, Ariz., last week. He finished 0.13 seconds ahead of the runner-up as he recorded the fastest time by a Lobo since 1991. Solomon also shaved 0.39 seconds off of his previous career-best mark. His time is the best in the conference this season, the fifth best in MWC history and currently ranks 10th in the nation. Solomon was also a part of the second-place UNM 4x400 relay team that clocked a conference season-best time of 3:10.72. The time was New Mexico's fastest time in the event since 2003. Koehler led San Diego State to its fourth title in the last five seasons in which it competed at the Cal-Nevada Championships with four top-five finishes last weekend. Koehler finished first in the triple jump with a SDSU school record and NCAA regional qualifying mark of 41'-11.50" (12.79m). The jump is the third best in conference history and is currently tied for seventh best in the nation. She also finished second in the long jump with a mark of 19'-6.25" (5.95m). In sprinting events, Koehler notched season-best times in the 100 (11.83) and 200-meter dash (24.61), finishing second and fifth, respectively, while also helping the Aztec 4x100 relay quartet to a first-place finish in a regional qualifying time of 45.61.
