COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU junior Jim Roberts and UNLV sophomore Michele Davis were named Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for their performances last weekend.

Competing at the Mountain State Games in Pocatello, Idaho, Roberts set a new personal best in the shot put with a throw of 64' 10.5", more than two and a half feet better than the NCAA automatic-qualifying mark. The performance was also the best in the conference this season by almost a foot and earned Roberts first place in the event.

A native of Lansing, Mich., Davis won the 200-meter dash at the Wolf Pack Invitational in Reno, Nev., with an NCAA provisional-qualifying time of :24.00. She edged her nearest competitor by 0.6 seconds. The mark was not only a career-best but was the fastest recorded in the Mountain West Conference this season. In the 400-meter competition, Davis missed the NCAA provisional-qualifying time by 0.3 seconds, but still finished first by 2.4 seconds with a league-leading time of :55.00.

Last week's winners: BYU's Jeff Hansen and Allan Gulledge and UNLV's Chantel Yates
