Mountain West Names Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week
TCU's Charles Silmon, San Diego State's Whitney Ashley and UNLV's Amanda Bingson earn the wards

TCU junior Charles Silmon has been selected as the Mountain West Men's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week, while San Diego State senior Whitney Ashley and UNLV senior Amanda Bingson have been named the MW Co-Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week.
A product of Waco, Texas, Silmon earned first-place honors in the men’s 60-meter race at last weekend’s Razorback Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., clocking a time of 6.71 to claim the individual title. Silmon’s mark ranks first in the MW this season and is tied for 18th in the nation. The victory was the second in as many meets for Silmon, who claimed the 60-meter title at the Texas 10-Team Invitational in College Station, Texas on Jan. 14.
Hailing from Moreno Valley, Calif., Ashley won both the women’s shot put and weight throw titles at the Air Force Team Challenge last weekend in Colorado Springs, Colo., helping the Aztecs to a second-place team finish at the meet. Ashley earned first-place honors in the shot put, posting a school-record throw of 54’-6.75.” Her personal-best mark ranks second in MW history and is currently ninth in the NCAA during the 2012 season. Ashley also won the women’s weight throw event at the Air Force Team Challenge, recording a toss of 60’-7.50” to notch the individual crown.
Bingson, a native of Las Vegas, Nev., claimed the women’s weight throw title at the Mountain T’s Invitational last weekend in Flagstaff, Ariz. She registered a program-record toss of 66’-6.50” to win the event. Bingson’s personal-best mark, which surpassed the Rebels’ previous school record by nearly a foot and a half (65’-2.25”), ranks fourth-best in Mountain West history. Her toss also ranks first in the Conference and 12th in the country this season.
