COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico senior Derek Mackel and Colorado State junior Janay DeLoach have been named Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, respectively. This is the first career weekly honor for both recipients.

Mackel, an Albuquerque, N.M., native, finished second in the pole vault at the Modrall Sperling Lobo Invitational in Albuquerque last weekend, provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the process. His career best vault of 17'-11.00" (5.46m), is tied for the second-best mark in MWC history and is currently the third best mark in the nation. The invite featured top-ranked Florida State, No. 5 LSU, No. 12 Texas A&M, 20th-ranked USC and 22nd-ranked BYU.

DeLoach, from Edwards AFB, Calif., won the long jump and finished sixth in the 60 meter dash at the Modrall Sperling Lobo Invitational last weekend. In the long jump, she set a career-best, as well as a Colorado State school record with her provisional qualifying mark of 20'-4.50" (6.21m). Her jump also ranks fourth all-time in the conference record book. In the 60 meter race, she clocked a time of 7.48 for the sixth place finish.
