Mountain West Names Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

TCU's Charles Silmon and Whitney Gipson earn the awards

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -

TCU junior Charles Silmon has been selected as the Mountain West Men's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week, while TCU senior Whitney Gipson has been named the Women's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week.

Hailing from Waco, Texas, Silmon won the men’s 60-meter dash at the Texas Top-10 Invitational last weekend in College Station, Texas. Silmon posted a career-best time of 6.66 seconds to claim the individual title. That mark is the fourth fastest 60-meter time in Mountain West history and is currently tied for the fourth-best time in the NCAA this season.

Gipson, from North Richland Hills, Texas, earned first-place honors in the women’s long jump at the Texas Top-10 Invitational last weekend in College Station, Texas. Gipson set a new Texas-10 Invitational meet record with a leap of 20’-7.75” (6.29m) to garner the individual title. Her long jump mark also currently ranks first the NCAA this season.
