Mountain West Conference Names Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week TCU's Jonathan Jackson and Virgil Hodge receive the honors
Jan. 15, 2008 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - TCU seniors Jonathan Jackson and Virgil Hodge have been selected as the Mountain West Conference men's and women's indoor track and field athletes of the week, respectively. Jackson receives the men's award after kicking off TCU's indoor season with a triple jump crown at the Arkansas Invitational, held on Jan. 11, in Fayetteville, Ark. Jackson won the event for the second consecutive year by earning an NCAA provisional mark with a career-best indoor jump of 15.77m (51-09.00). His leap at the Arkansas Invite is currently the top mark in the league and lone provisional mark set in the men's triple jump. The jump ranks second in the nation this season, according to TrackShark.com, and was good enough to replace Jackson's previous best mark, set in 2006, at fourth place in the all-time MWC record book. Jackson, a Grand Prairie, Texas, native, competed against athletes from several schools ranking in the top-25 in preseason polls, including No. 9 Arkansas, No. 10 Baylor and No. 11 Kansas. Hodge, hailing from Kitts, Carribean, won both the 60-meter and 200-meter titles at the Arkansas Invitational by setting NCAA provisional marks in both events. Hodge clocked a time of 7.38 in the 60-meter and turned in a time of 23.63 in the 200-meter. Her 200-meter time is good enough to rank fourth all-time in the Mountain West Conference and currently holds the front position for the season in both the league and the nation, according to TrackShark.com. Hodge also competed against a preseason nationally-ranked field, including No. 9 Arkansas and No. 17 Mississippi. This marks Jackson's first career indoor weekly award and Hodge's third.
