Jessica Fox Represents Wyoming at U.S. Olympic Trials

Junior finishes in 18th in quarterfinals of the 400 meter dash.

Sacramento, Calif. -- Cowgirl junior Jessica Fox ended her 2004 track and field season Monday at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Team Trials in Sacramento, Calif. Fox finished 18th in the quarterfinals of the 400 meter dash, she needed to place in the top 16 to move on to the semifinals.

Fox, a native of Burns, Wyo., crossed the finish line in 53.11 seconds and missed a spot in the semifinals by more than half a second. Sanya Richards of the Nike team turned in the top time, 50.22 seconds, followed by Monique Hennagan in 50.31 seconds. DeeDee Trotter of Tennessee raced to a third place performance of 50.52 seconds.

"Jessica had a great year, and considering how she battled through so many injuries she had a terrific year," said UW head track and field coach Don Yentes. "We are extremely proud of her, but now it is time for her to get healthy and ready for next season."

Fox struggled during the outdoor season due to nagging foot problems. However, she still managed to earn All-Mountain West Conference honors in the 200 and 400 meter dashes, and also helped the Cowgirl 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams set new UW records and earn All-MWC honors. She earned All-American honors during the indoor season in the 400 meter dash and took home the indoor MWC title in 200 meter dash.
