SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Despite throwing a personal-best mark of 173'3", Air Force All-American Dana Pounds (Lexington, Ky.) just missed a spot on the United States Olympic Team. Pounds finished sixth in the finals of the javelin throw at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials in Sacramento, Calif., on Sunday, July 11.

One of 12 competitors in the finals of the javelin throw, Pounds threw a personal-best mark of 173'3" on her sixth and final throw of the afternoon. It was the second-best throw of any collegiate athlete in the field.

Kim Kreiner won the event with a top throw of 182'7". She will joined on the Olympic Team by Sarah Malone (177'11") and Denise O'Connell (177'4").
