Former Falcon Standouts Shine at USA Track and Field Championships
Dana (Pounds) Lyon finished fifth in the javelin throw at the senior meet.

EUGENE, Ore. - Former Air Force standout Dana (Pounds) Lyon collected the Falcons' best finish of the day at the USA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. Lyon, one of two Academy graduates to compete at the national meet on Saturday, June 27, finished fifth in the javelin throw. Lyon, a two-time NCAA champion and the 2007 U.S. champion in the javelin, recorded her best throw of the day on her first one. She automatically advanced to the finals with an opening toss of 179'8". She added a throw of 168'10", before fouling off the final throw of the first round. In the second round, she recorded marks of 174'8", 166'5" and 168'0". Capt Paul Gensic, a 2005 Academy graduate, tied for 13th in the pole vault with a clearance of 17'8½". Gensic cleared the opening height, but wasn't able to advance to the next mark of 18'2½". Discounting the ties, Gensic's height was the fifth-best clearance of the day in that event. Rising senior Nick Frawley attempted a personal-best clearance of 17'8½" on the meet's opening height, but was unable to clear the bar in the three chances allowed. With today's competition, Frawley concluded a remarkable campaign that saw him collect two All-America certificates and the Academy's indoor record. At the junior national championship meet, which is also taking place at Hayward Field, sophomore-to-be Paige Blackburn picked up a 14th-place finish in the javelin. She recorded a distance of 127'11" on her final throw to take that finish in the final standings. She also recorded throws of 125'8" and 118'3" during her second event of the weekend, as she finished 16th in the shot put during yesterday's competition. The Falcons conclude action at the national championships in Eugene, Ore., tomorrow (June 28), when rising sophomore James Walmsley competes in the junior 5000-meter run.
