Track & Field Finishes Season At USA Outdoor Championships Nicole Ireland's 200-meter semifinal appearance highlights final three days.

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State track and field squad closed out its 2003 campaign at the USA outdoor championships in Stanford, Calif., June 20-22. All-American Nicole Ireland's (Las Vegas, Nev.) semifinal appearance in the 200 meters highlighted the final three days of competition at the Cobb Track and Angell Field. Ireland, whose last 200-meter race was in mid-April, qualified for the semifinals on Friday with the 13th-fastest preliminary time of 24.08. A day later, Ireland finished out the meet with the 14th-best time of 23.77 in the first semifinal heat. On Friday evening, All-American Leslie Miller (Humble, Texas) completed the heptathlon with 5,216 points, good for a 12th-place finish in an event won by Nike's Shelia Burrell (6,159 pts.). Miller was 13th in the long jump (17-07.50), sixth in the javelin (137-07) and posted the seventh-best time in the 800 meters (2:18.16). In the USA junior championships, which were also being held at Stanford, freshman Bianca McNair (Portland, Ore.) advanced to the finals of the 200 meters, recording a ninth-place time of 24.99. McNair's classmate Jamillah Titus (American Canyon, Calif.), meanwhile, fell just one spot short of qualifying for the finals of the 800 meters, running the 10th best time (2:11.36) in the preliminaries.
