Smith and Fox Wrap Up Competition At 2003 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships
Both finish season with All-American and All-Mountain West honors.

Laramie, Wyoming - The outdoor season ended for two of the top track and field athletes at the University of Wyoming, on Saturday afternoon, at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Palo Alto, California.
Sophomore Jessica Fox finished eighth in the finals of the 400-meter dash, clocking in with a time of 52.58. She qualified for the finals on Friday with a time of 52.33. Fox ends the season as a 2003 All-American honoree, an All-Mountain West Conference performer, along with breaking her own personal record in the event several times during the season.
Shauna Smith, who qualified for the finals of the 400-meter hurdles by breaking a personal and school record, finished seventh in the event with a time of 57.69. The Sheridan, Wyoming native ran a semifinal time of 57.09, which eclipsed her previous best mark of 57.22, ranking her seventh on the day. She also earned All-American honors at last week's NCAA Outdoor Championships, plus was an All-Mountain West Conference performer.
"Jessica struggled off the starting line, but still ran a very solid time in her race today," said head coach Don Yentes. "She did a great job and I'm very pleased. It not only bodes well for her in the future, but Shauna as well. Shauna had a sluggish start, still feeling the effects of her illness, but for her to finish in the top eight of these championships is quite an honor."
