INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Freshman Sara Neubauer (Bottineau, N.D.) became the Air Force Academy's first-ever USATF champion, as she won the shot put title at the 2007 Finish Line USA Junior Track and Field Championships in Indianapolis, Ind., on Thursday, June 21.

Neubauer recorded a distance of 48'10¼" to win the event and top the 29-competitor field by over two inches. Nuebauer's Colorado State counterpart Nneka Ugochukw finished second at 48'8", giving the Mountain West Conference the top two throwers in the junior national meet.

Having spent three weeks at Kirtland AFB, N.M., as a part of the summer ops program, Neubauer only recently returned to the throwing circle. After fouling her first throw, Neubauer steadily improved, before reaching the winning toss of 48'10¼" on her fifth attempt.

Classmate Nick Frawley will compete this evening in the pole vault and those results will be released following the event's conclusion.

With one title securely under her belt, Neubauer continues action tomorrow (June 22) with the discus throw at 1:30 p.m. (EST). Former Falcons Paul Gensic (pole vault) and Dana Pounds (javelin throw) will compete tomorrow in the USA Senior National Championships.
