Smith and Fox Advance To Semifinals at USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Laramie, Wyoming (June 20, 2003) -- Wyoming sophomores Shauna Smith and Jessica Fox both advanced into the semifinals in each of their events at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, on Thursday night, in Palo Alto, California.

Fox, a native of Burns, Wyoming, finished with the seventh best time in the preliminaries of the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.33. She advances into the semifinals on Friday night.

A native of Sheridan, Wyoming, Smith advanced into the semifinals of the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.43.

"I'm very proud of both Jessica and Shauna for their efforts," said head track and field coach Don Yentes. "They each had excellent races and I'm extremely pleased with their performances."

Action will continue for both, Friday night, at the USA Track and Field Championships as Smith will compete in the semifinals of the 400-meter hurdles and Fox competes in the 400-meter dash.
